Welcome to the Westlake English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and EL/Civics program. All classes are free and books and materials are provided in the classroom. The program focuses on reading, writing, listening and speaking in addition to American culture. The civics component adds instruction on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, civic participation and U.S. History and government. We will have community speakers, make visits to such places as the police station, Huntington Beach and the library and explore what it means to live in the United States. Distance learning is also available for intermediate/advanced students.
The orientation process is completed in one or two sessions. During this time, you will be given a variety of assessments including the BEST Plus speaking test, CASAS reading, learning styles and a writing sample. The extensive registration process allows us the opportunity to accurately determine class placement and goals.
New sites have been added with funding from the Tri-C ABLE consortium.
Adults only - please leave children at home.

Upon completion of registration classes meet twice a week in Rocky River, Fairview Park or Westlake. Classes meet either 9:00-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:00 p.m.
